I'm sitting here at an indoor play area for kids, watching my littles enjoy a well needed outing after a month long of me working long hours to get my most recent development off the ground.
In the last month our girlies have grown leaps. Madilynn has toilet trained herself and uses the bathroom on her own. Having Madisyn at home during the day helps cut down the amount of constant snacking I have to provide since she is able to wash up unlimited amounts of fruit and veggie for them. Madisyn also provides much needed entertainment for her younger sisters so I'm no longer micro-managing playtime. All of these milestones have made it easier for me to pursue finding myself outside being wife and mom.
A few weeks ago I attended a DONA approved Doula certification course. I have always had a passion for birth and at a young age wanted to be an OB so I could be the first to see babies enter this world. As I grew and became more familiar with conventional medicine after trying my hand as an EMT and nurse assistant, I realized that it was not the route for me. My passion for home birth became deep rooted after planning for my own home birth. My interest in home birth led me to research becoming a Midwife. I'm unsure of where God wants me to be regarding Midwifery so I have decided to work my way toward possibly becoming a Midwife by gaining much needed and invaluable experience as a Doula first. I have already been so blessed to be a part of five very special births and I find great joy in bringing laboring Moms encouragement and comfort during the birthing process. And the icing, I get to be one of the first to watch these precious angels enter the world.
So far I know this is the path I want to travel on. I knew it was certain when I became emotional at the discussion of my website with our website designer. As most of you already know, I also have a passion for natural health and have written many informative papers regarding different topics. All of these will be available in printable form on my website for anyone interested. Another exciting addition to my services is belly casting. I think it will be a great service to provide at one of my prenatal visits to become more comfortable with mom and more connected with baby through touch. This will be a learning process that I'm happy to embark on.
Along with designing my website, our website designer Cj Gilbert is creating a very special logo for me that I can't wait to share with everyone.
During this process I have grown closer to some beautiful ladies that are in the same line of work and that are great mentors. One in particular happens to be good friends with Dr. Biter who was our amazing OB with our last two births and is just beyond words special to us. She has some beautiful stories of working along side Dr. Biter and maybe one day I will get to experience working side by side with him for a birth. This Doula has been working very hard on a project very dear to her heart and she was glowing with joy when she presented me her finished product. There will be a section on my website for her product as soon as it is available to sell wholesale, so please make sure you check back and look for it. It is a fabulous gift for moms-to-be!
My next step is creating business cards and I'm so antsy to get my finished logo so I can send it out to a business cards designer. Waiting for my website and logo has been one of the hardest things. I'm forcing myself not to micro-manage CJ. Bless his heart!
I'm very excited to share that I currently have four moms due. One Mom is my cousin Rachel who I have been so honored to be part of the births of her first two children and now she is expecting a second baby boy. Two of the Moms are part of OSD (Operation Special Delivery) which is a volunteer program for the military. I provide my services free of charge for them if their partners are deployed or injured and the Mom needs extra support. The fourth Mom is a patient of our Chiropractor. Three of the births are within 4 days of each other so I foresee a very busy week the end of October. I'm totally up for the challenge, but just in-case.....I have an awesome back-up Doula!
I hope my website is ready to launch by the end of the month so stay tuned! And in the meantime......feel free to spread the word about my services. I'm open for business!!
