6 weeks and 4 days pregnant

Well, I had to cave yesterday. My current jeans no longer button. Wonder if that is from the 7 pounds I put on. Hmmm?
I had the option of going up a few sizes in regular jeans (a blow to the ego for any woman) or buying the "barely showing" maternity jeans. I will let you guess which route I went. My boobs are no longer envious as they have taken a life all their own and retired onto bigger things. So much in fact that I often find myself staring at them wondering if they could possibly get any bigger without exploding. Derek just finds it humorous and my hand has become accustomed to slapping his hands away every spare moment they wander near me.
I think I may have gotten a grasp on the morning sickness. It seems that when I wake in the middle of the night to use the restroom, if I eat a few crackers with cheese or peanut butter, the morning sickness isn't so bad when I wake up. I have to admit that I have stocked up on a large arsenal of supplies "proven to ease morning sickness." Crystallized ginger, Umeboshi pickled plum puree (don't ask), preggy pops, saltines, and ginger ale. I fear this baby will come out hard to please. :)
I'm happy to report the cramps have subsided significantly. A good sign that my ovaries have been given a rest now that the placenta is taking over. My tummy itches and I have a little pooch which is so much cuter when I stick it out a little.

Next appointment is September 6th. Well....until then.

Second doctors appointment. Same procedure. This time ultrasound clearly shows baby is nestled in my uterus with a nice yolk sac and strong heartbeat. Due date is April 16, 2008. Also happens to be a day before my sister Hannah's birthday. Blood pressure is back to a normal 106/60.
Madisyn is elated and has made it a point to tell everyone that walks buy that she has a baby on the way. Morning sickness has kicked in and I have never been so happy to be so miserable. I think of the morning sickness as confirmation that the little bean is in there. My symptoms are full force and the midnight peeing has yet to be desired. Derek often comes home to find me fast asleep on the days I don't work. The strangest request came the other day when I asked him to disinfect the refrigerator and place two boxes of baking soda in there. I can't seem to open the refrigerator without tossing my cookies. This is contributed to my "super-sniffer" as Derek calls it. Another preggy symptom I'm sure will be fun in the months to come. :)

Our first appointment: I nervously waited as I didn't know what to think of the sharp pains in my left side. "Could that mean ectopic? God please no! We can't bear the pain of losing another one." The nurse calls me in and I prepare a urine sample for verification that I'm indeed pregnant. "What if I did those 6 tests at home wrong though and I misunderstood the test results?" I pace back and forth and dare to watch the nurse place a few drops onto the pregnancy stick. Two lines show immediately. I ask the nurse, "Are two lines good?" She laughs. She takes my blood pressure, 130/89. Normally 112/60. "Already a pregnancy complication?" Then I'm shown the room and undress as instructed. 5 minutes go buy. I'm shaking. The doctor comes in. A tall, beautiful doctor with a very sweet and gentle face. I begin to cry. I explain to her through tears to please be gentle in telling me any news. We have been through so much to have this baby. She prepares the ultrasound and there shown in the middle of my dark, gray uterus, is a small fluid-filled sac. The doctor points, "That looks to be the gestational sac. You are measuring at about 4 weeks." The rest of the appointment was a blur. I had my blood drawn and was instructed to return in 48 hours for another blood draw. The doctor wants to make sure my HcG levels double as they should in a healthy pregnancy. Test results show 3 days later that my HcG levels tripled! A good sign this baby is doing well.

THE NEWS!

So it seems to be. After two years of heartache, uncertainty and doubt; God has finally blessed us with a miracle! We are having a baby!! We couldn't be more happy.
